Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938, and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors at our blood drives and in our 7 Neighborhood Donation Centers to help save the lives of patients in Cincinnati Tristate hospitals. During winter, blood donations often decline due to holidays and bad weather, making it crucial to maintain local blood supplies. National Blood Donor Month highlights the ongoing need for donors and honors their life-saving efforts.
Hoxworth Blood Center is launching the #HoxworthHabit initiative in 2025, encouraging families in the Tri-state area to make blood donation an annual tradition. Donors can give blood in January, donate on their birthday, or host a birthday blood drive to support over 30 local hospitals.
As a bonus, January donors will receive a Cincinnati-themed tie-dye t-shirt and Hoxworth joggers. Dr. Caroline Alquist emphasizes that donating blood not only saves lives but fosters hope for a healthier future. Start 2025 as a hero and inspire others to do the same!
